The Museum of Reus (Raven of Santa Anna, 59) presents the exhibition "Fortuny, the myth", a sample co-produced by the Municipal Institute of Museums of Reus and the National Museum of Art of Catalonia. This is the main activity of the International Year Fortuny Reus 2012-2013 and is a complete sample that follows the artistic career of Marià Fortuny i Marsal (Reus, 1838 - Rome, 1874) through forty- artist, from the earliest works to his last pictorial stage. This is the most important example of the artist in Reus since 1974, so it is possible to speak of an historical artistic event in Reus.
This exhibition project, shared between the MNAC and the Museum of Reus, has put together pictorial collections of important institutions in the country and private collections to build an exceptional exhibition.
The National Museum of Art of Catalonia (principal cedent of pieces), the Montserrat Museum, the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi and the Municipal Institute of Museums present some of the most important pieces of their fortunes.
Masterpieces
"La vicaria", "El coleccionista de estampes", "Nino en Portici" o "Hierro Moroccan" are some of the masterpieces that can be admired in this exhibition, which is the result of the joint work between the National Museum Art de Catalunya and the Reus Town Hall (Municipal Institute of Museums of Reus).
The curators of the exhibition are two experts in the figure of the reusen painter: the head of the Cabinet of Drawings and Engravings of the MNAC, Francesc M. Quílez, and the professor of History of Art of the URV, Jordi Àngel Carbonell.
The number of pieces from the MNAC is considerable: such representative productions as "El coleccionista de estampes", "La vicaria", "Il contino" or "Platja africana", have temporarily left their residence, from the National Palace of Montjuïc, in order to be contemplated in the birthplace of the painter city, within the framework of the exhibition of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the birth.
