Steel is a fundamental material in the economic and social development of a country. Its important physical properties allow steel to be a fundamental constructive and industrial element at the same time as economic, accessible and easy to transform. However, it does not have a natural protection against corrosion; and for steel to have long durability and be sustainable it requires effective and low maintenance cost corrosion protection. Galvanizing in general is the most suitable protection system with a minimum cost that allows to complement the steel and thus, allow the galvanized steel is currently the best construction system and with more guarantees throughout its life. service life. In this seminar we will analyze corrosion in general, the different protection techniques, but finally focusing on galvanized steel and galvanization. In turn, the use of zinc in galvanizing, its recyclability and its sustainability will be analyzed from an environmental point of view.
