[VIRTUAL VISIT] SINCOTRÓN ALBA

Aimed at: Members and relatives
Dates: November 26 (Friday)
Schedule: At 11.00 hours
Attendees: Maximum 30
Duration: 1 hour and a half approximately
Description:

Know what a synchrotron is and what the different light lines are for. Beyond an online chat: an ALBA person will show you live the synchrotron by moving around the facility with a camera.

The ALBA Synchrotron is a third generation scientific infrastructure located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona) and is the most important in the Mediterranean area. It is a complex of electron accelerators to produce synchrotron light, which allows to visualize the atomic and molecular structure of materials and study their properties.

The energy of the electron beam generated at ALBA is 3 GeV and is achieved by combining a linear accelerator (LINAC) and a low emission and maximum power propeller placed in the same tunnel as the storage ring. The ALBA Synchrotron has a perimeter of 270 meters and 17 straight sections available for the installation of insertion devices.

ALBA currently has eight operational light lines, which include both soft and hard X-rays, and are intended primarily for the biosciences, condensed matter (nanoscience and magnetic and electronic properties) and the science of materials. Four more light lines are under construction (low-energy, high-resolution photoemission for complex materials, microfocus for protein crystallography, absorption and diffraction, and X-ray tomography).

Note: We will send you the link so that you can access the virtual tour. (ZOOM Platform)
