[DEPARTURE] CROSSING NEEDLES AND FRARES

Can Massana car park at 9:00. From the A2, shortly after passing the Bruc, take exit 570 towards Montserrat Manresa on the BP-1101. We continue 2.7 km until we reach the car park, where we will leave the cars.

If anyone does not know how to get there or wants to share a car, we will leave Tarragona at 7:30 am, in the car park of the Francolí river. In this case, it is important to inform us to find out who to expect or to know that we have enough space in the cars for everyone who comes.

The region of needles and the region of enchanted monks are the most western parts of the mountain of Montserrat. One of the areas where we can see more clearly the formation and erosion of it. On the north side we will see the impressive walls that fall vertically on the slope that goes to the river Llobregat, responsible for this erosion so vertical.

The route begins in the Can Maçana car park, and progresses to the Guirló pass from where we will have a spectacular view of the height of the needles on the north-west slope. Once we enter the door we will line up through this maze of needles and find out each of its shapes. Inside, we will do some very fun climbs and descents, not very complicated, with some fixed ropes to help us, but we do need a minimum of skill to overcome these stretches. This will add value for the more adventurous.

Finally, we will take the path of the perforated rock, where we will climb its peculiar hole to enjoy good sensations and stunning views. A triangular hole about 10 meters high and 6 meters wide.

Itinerary difficulty: moderate. The difference in level and length of this route, plus reaching this 800m drop, makes it necessary to be used to walking.

Technical difficulty: difficult. During the itinerary we will have to climb and dismount on more than one occasion, with the help of fixed ropes that will make it easier.

Essential:

• Comfortable mountain shoes.
• Comfortable, breathable clothing, and warm clothing for the first hours of the day and stops.
• Waterproof screen, cape or similar on days with risk of rain.
• Cap or similar and sunscreen (especially in times when the sun is very hot).
• 1.5 l of water minimum, if someone tends to see a lot of water increase this minimum.
• Food for the whole day (breakfast, lunch and whatever you consider for the stops we will be making, energy bars, nuts, fruit ...)
• Backpack with the capacity to carry everything.
• Mobile phone with battery.

Optional / recommended

• Spare socks and t-shirt for when we finish the activity.
• Small first aid kit.
