Presentation: | The book by Pallarès and Sánchez explains the construction and evolution of the railway lines in southern Catalonia from the middle of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th. Iberian-width trains that go from Tarragona to Lleida, that cross the entire demarcation from Calafell to Ulldecona, on the way to Valencia, or that go from Reus to Móra and Aragó. Also more modest trains such as the carrilets of Salou and la Cava have a place on this historic route. It is a very graphic work, where, through almost three hundred images between photographs, plans and drawings, from archives and private collections, the route of the lines, the stations, the rolling stock is shown , utensils or signage. The work values the Engineers who participated in its construction such as Stephenson, De Bergue and Maristany. Many of these elements have disappeared over time and others have been replaced by more modern elements; this means that, in many cases, the images are the only surviving evidence of this historical and cultural heritage in our regions. |
