Blood is a tissue made up of several elements with different characteristics and functions, for this reason they are spread separately to different patients. Consequently a single donation of blood can benefit more than one patient .
The Blood and Tissue Bank is the public company whose mission is the management and administration of blood donation, transfusion and analysis of blood and blood plasma, as well as acting as a center for obtaining and processing and of tissues as well as other lines of action in the field of immune biology, molecular diagnosis, cell therapy and regenerative medicine.
This conference tries to highlight the importance of the involvement of the social fabric (entities and institutions) in order to achieve self-sufficiency and that the possible future donor knows:
- The main functions of the blood.
- The needs of blood, organs and tissues in Catalonia.
- Procedures for obtaining blood, organs and tissues, as well as the whole process of blood components.
It will be given by the Director of the Bank of Blood and Tissues of the Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre, Dr. Enric Contreras and the Territorial Transplant Coordinator, Dr. Maria Bimbodí .
