The Moors and Christians festivals in Alcoy originate in the Battle of Alcoy produced in 1276 at the gates of the city and faced the inhabitants of Alcoy, helped by 200 horsemen who brought the son of En Jaume I, Pere, with the troops of the Muslim leader Al-Azraq.
It tells the tradition that in the key moment of the battle appeared the figure of Sant Jordi on the backs of a horse on the walls of the city and that his figure decided the result of the Battle.
Numerous towns celebrate Moors and Christians parties, but since the last third of the 20th century, those of Alcoy got a special recognition due to their richness and spectacularity, to the point of being declared of international tourist interest.
The AETIGT organizes a cultural event on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of April 2010 where you will visit:
· Ducal Palace of Gandia.
· Cultural show of Moors and Christians.
· Xativa (Museum, Castle and Old Town).
The PROGRAM of this output is as follows (approximate timetables):
FIRST DAY: Departures from Reus (8:00 a.m.), Tarragona (8.30 a.m.) and Tortosa (9.45 a.m.), direction Gandia (Valencia). Half way to breakfast (free). Arrival in Gandia, accommodation and lunch at the Hotel ***. In the afternoon, visit the Ducal Palace of Gandia, the building of S. V declared a historical-artistic monument. In this palace was born the IV Duke of Gandia, San Francisco de Borja. Dinner at the hotel.
SECOND DAY: In the morning, after breakfast, transfer to Alcoy, visit of the MOROS AND CRISTIANOS parade. Free lunch and cold dinner at the hotel.

THIRD DAY: In the morning, after breakfast, visit Xàtiva with an official guide: museum, castle and old town. Lunch at the Hotel and after lunch, return to the place of origin.
