ATEX Directive Course: Explosive Atmospheres

On June 18, 2003, RD 681/2003 was published on protection of the health and safety of workers exposed to the risks derived from explosive atmospheres in the workplace.

This Royal Decree affects among others the following activities

• Chemical industry

• Woodworking industry

• Painting and enamelling workshops

• Manufacture of light metal parts

• Feed manufacturing

• Repair of vehicles and service stations

• Laundries and dry cleaners

• Food industry (manufacture of flours, ovens, etc.)

• Textile and related industries

• Premises for the use of flammable chemicals

• Agricultural Installations with feed storage

The determination of hazardous sites for gases or vapors, both in terms of the type of area and its extent and geometry, is the first, obligatory and transcendental step, for all the decisions that the user of the installation must take Actions at risk from potentially explosive atmospheres. It is also the starting point of the Explosion Protection Document prescribed by Royal Decree 681/2003, which transposes Directive 1999/92 / EC.

In the current course, it is intended, through precisely the basic points of the mentioned Document, to deepen the knowledge of the correct classification of zones, as a basic element to be able to carry out the different corrective measures necessary to avoid the risks derived from the presence of explosive atmospheres.

The course is aimed at engineers, chemists, prevention technicians for own and foreign prevention services; Managers, directors or managers of companies with explosive atmospheres and to any professional who develop activities related to the safety, maintenance and control of explosive atmospheres in companies of multiple sectors with potential sources of ignition and in which activities of storage are carried out of fuels, mining operations, fuel service stations, wood industry, food, etc.
