Miguel J. Font Bosque, Engineer, 63 years
1.- What engineering did you do?
I studied Industrial Technical Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in the specialty of Electronics and developed it working as an Electronic Instrumentalist at the Cofrents Nuclear Power Plant. The company got a contract at the Ascó Nuclear Power Plant and moved me to work at the Power Plant. Since 1988 I have lived in Reus and currently in Salou.
2.- What do you specialize in?
In 1999 I changed jobs due to the loss of my contract in Ascó. This caused me to have to retrain and train in the electrical specialty, doing among other studies several courses at CETIT. Since then I have dedicated myself to the electrical specialty, carrying out all kinds of projects, legalizations and works management. I am also a founding partner and director of the company EMYER 2002, SA with which I have carried out most of my professional career. as an engineer.
3.- Music is a passion, how do you combine it with work?
Music, for me, is the relief and preventive medicine that controls the stress of professional activity. My instrument, which is singing, you always carry with you and in countless moments at work you start singing or reviewing repertoire. This is like doing a reset and rebooting so you don’t get obsessed with the problems. It also gives a good roll to the people who accompany you and improves professional relationships.
4.- What about engineering in music and what about music in engineering?
In principle they are two very different branches and as it is studied, they develop from different parts of our brain. Engineering is cold, calculated, reasoned, and so on. and music is feeling, passion, improvisation, and so on. We can agree that the two need technique and work for excellence, but the most important thing is that they are complementary and can be developed together.
5.- Sing lyrically, where does this passion come from?
As I mentioned my beginnings come from being a member of my village choir and in it, I stood out a bit for my vocal skills and sang the solo parts as a baritone. When I came to live in Tarragona I missed this activity and decided to study music. I started solfeggio and piano courses, but I stayed with the singing classes I found at the Academy where I studied.
6.- Have you studied singing?
I have studied and continue to study with several private tutors. I have also attended several courses and masterclasses in singing, which are taught by renowned teachers. Lyrical singing also requires physical skills, a long and laborious learning until the technique is internalized and you can interpret and express singing. When you start many times you get discouraged because you think you sing worse than before. It’s like you’re a writer and you have to start doing calligraphy. Later and after a hard work you manage to fuse the technique and the art, and you return to enjoy singing again.
7.- Where do you normally act?
In my artistic career, I have gone through several stages as part of groups of lyrical singers to perform operas (Don Giovanni) and Zarzuelas (Luisa Fernanda). Also forming duets with colleagues (Tenors and Sopranos) to perform recitals and concerts on various stages. As a solo baritone he performed concerts accompanied by pianist mainly in Catalonia and Valencia for cultural entities and town halls. Also noteworthy are charitable performances in nursing homes, the ONCE, etc.
8.- Do it alone, do you have an accompaniment?
I am usually accompanied by a Pianist and some other additional instrument, depending on the budget. I also use amplification equipment with music in Playback for small format recitals.
9.- What would be your dream in the world of music?
Since I haven’t dedicated myself exclusively and given my age, I can’t wish for impossible goals. This is a very demanding and competitive world where you have to start very young and stand out. I would like to continue enjoying as so far sharing my performances with audiences and in the best possible settings.
10.- How have you experienced this pandemic, both in engineering and in music?
I can't complain, because despite being so hard about confinement and the impossibility of carrying out both activities normally, I performed 4 concerts with COVID measures and I took advantage of confinement to study and improve my repertoire.
