Innovations in energy issues

This challenge is aimed at innovations in any field of technology that have a high potential to achieve the following goals:

  • Greater conversion and use of clean energy through the collection, conversion and storage of energy, including renewable energy carriers, their integration into energy systems and the generation of hybrid energy;
  • Decarbonization of hard-to-reduce industries, such as capture / conversion, transportation, storage and utilization / recovery of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, energy collection, recovery and storage integrated in the process, the use of renewable hydrogen, the recovery of residual heat and the valorization of products for the co-production of energy and materials;
  • Energy efficiency and safety in the built environment, including the use of innovative climate-neutral materials, smart windows, technology and natural carbon removal solutions, design and engineering concepts that increase energy efficiency, the comfort and safety, indoor air management, the integration of renewable energies, facilitating the development of energy communities and smart grids, circularity and integrated food-energy-water management;
  • Zero emission mobility solutions for all modes of transport, both for passenger vehicles and for light and heavy vehicles, with a particular focus on automation solutions, connectivity and solutions that improve interaction with the energy system;
  • Climate neutrality in land use to increase climate resilience, decontaminate soils and reduce nitrogen and methane emissions, increase the existence of carbon in the soil and other carbon pools in land and coastal areas;
  • Water, gas and indoor air management / monitoring systems for both quality and indexing purposes (global warming measures) and early warning tools, gas leak control systems, treatment systems, networks sustainable gas (for hydrogen);
  • Eco-friendly digital technologies to improve the integration of the energy system to enable the management of supply and demand and cost optimization, monitoring, real-time control, digitized maintenance; tools to improve the digital protection of energy systems, smart grids and zero clean energy communities; blockchain concepts adapted to the energy performance of buildings and power systems increasing reliability; quantum computing for energy systems; digital solutions / sensors to improve efficiency.
