The self-employed may raise or lower the fee up to six times a year

The Social Security has already prepared a new Royal Decree with changes in the system of affiliation and termination of self-employed workers in the RETA, which will allow these self-employed workers, if they wish, to change the contribution every two months.

The Social Security wants to approve in just over a month this Royal Decree-Law that would allow the self-employed to change the contribution base and, therefore, raise or lower the contribution up to six times a year. That is, every two months.

It is currently only allowed to do this four times in the same year, specifically in the first days of April, July, October and January of the following year. From 1 January to 31 December, inclusive, the chosen base is between a minimum of 960.60 euros per month and a maximum of 4,139.40 euros, in the case of a natural person. And a minimum base of 1,214.10 euros and a maximum of 4,139.40, in the case of members.

This Royal Decree-Law also modifies, among other issues, the way in which the RETA (Special Scheme for Self-Employed Workers) is registered and terminated, which would establish the obligation to inform the Ministry about the net income from the activity each time it changes its contribution base and, in addition, it would be required to provide more information for self-employment.

The aim of this change would be to allow self-employed workers to adjust their contributions more appropriately based on the forecast of economic returns.

Self-employed people who can't change it

It is important to remember that currently not all self-employed workers can make this change effective and, with few exceptions, once they reach the age of 47, two decades before retirement, it can no longer be changed. the contribution base, which means staying with the one you have until then.

This directly affects the pension, because if they had a lower share at that time, it is true that they will pay less during their work activity, but they will also see their pension reduced when they retire.

The document of this Draft Royal Decree amending the General Regulations on registration of companies and affiliation, affiliation, termination and variations of data of workers in the Social Security, which has just been put in the process of public hearing, it modifies some more important aspects of self-employment. And it seems that the intention is to link it to the reform of the self-employed contribution system in which the Ministry and the self-employed organizations have been working for months.
