CETIT has collaborated to bring to light this publication that deals with a topic as current and as important as energy saving.
Tarragona, February 2008. The Industrial Technical Foundation has published a book by the Industrial Technical Engineer of Roquetes, Ramon Cid Miravalls, entitled Thermo-isolation of Tuberias, which deals with the importance of this need in order to save energy.
The work has 300 pages that include a theoretical part, one of calculation and another one of setting "without pretending" as the author says - that it constitutes a very detailed work "but with an interesting selection of the ideal insulating material, with a Heavy-duty thickness that meets the industrial needs of the energy economy.
The vast majority of the data contained therein are the author's notes produced during his long professional career.
At present, the thermal insulation and its good maintenance amortises the cost of initial investment of an installation with the energy saving that entails. This rational and efficient use contributes to improving the environment as well as slow down the depletion of fossil fuels.
The book is divided into seven sections that analyze the technology of the materials, the thermal flow through the pipes, the thermal loss, the thickness of the insulation, the different functions of the thermal insulation, the contribution of heat or cold to the pipes to improve it and finally a brief introduction of the design of a pipe installation, plus a summary of the assembly until the construction of the external protection.
It should be noted that the books published so far on this subject in Spanish are few and usually refer to the thermal insulation of buildings and industry.
The author's goal has been, as emphasized in the prologue, "to wish that the material presented is very useful and could serve as the basis for developing more advanced computer programs on isolation calculations."
Ramon Cid Miravalls was born in Roquetes, municipality where he resides, and is 82 years old. He is an Industrial Technical Engineer with the specialties of Industrial and Textile Chemistry, and is a colleague from the CETIT (Association of Technical Industrial Engineers of Tarragona).
