Place of work: She is currently retired, but she worked for the company Bayer Hispania Comercial in Unicolor. He studied Technical Engineering in the specialty of Industrial Chemistry at the Industrial School of Barcelona.
You are probably one of the most veteran colleagues. And besides, woman. How have you experienced your work, in a sector, mostly, dominated by men?
It was really a bit of a problem. Being a woman, it was more difficult than a man to achieve a job with responsibility. Among technicians, it seemed that the man's word had more specific weight, somewhat a reflection of that society. In our promotion all this cost and we were few girls. Today, female engineers have important jobs and are being heard. Today, society has changed very positively.
Tell us about your experiences and if you had problems progressing.
I worked in the Pigments and Colorants section of Unicolor at Bayer in Barcelona. I married an industrial engineer and we went to live in Móra d'Ebre, near Ascó, where the Nuclear Power Plant was located. He could have gone to work at the Central but it did not look good that the wives of the workers were doing jobs together at the Central itself. Since I was doing ballet from the age of five and I needed to work, I decided to dedicate myself to my hobby and I am happy with the decision I made at the time.
For more than twenty years you dedicated yourself to classical dance and even set up a school. How did it come about?
When I was five years old I started with classical dance. My sister was a dance prodigy and I lived it up close. In Móra d'Ebre, I took a place and made it available for classical dance classes. At first, with anticipation, but little by little I started to have students and took them to examine the different courses at the Tarragona Superior School of Dance. At the same time, I taught at the Santa Teresa de les Carmelites school in Móra d'Ebre. He also taught guitar at the Lluís Viñas school. I had the dance academy from 1976 to 1996.
Do you see any relationship between dance and engineering?
A good engineer must have the agility to solve issues and problems with immediacy. Sometimes you have to have a certain art in using the wit.
Now that you're retired, what do you spend your time on?
I still like to study, I study English and French. I have also done several exhibitions of oil painting and watercolor. I like it and it is due to having been working in his day with pigments and dyes.
What do you think the College of Engineers can bring to the new members? To the young man?
I think that the work done by the College of Engineers is very good. There are very interesting talks and courses and, from the College, art is also promoted, with trips to see all kinds of performances. The College also encourages young people, especially girls, to study engineering: nowadays, there are already many women working in positions of responsibility.
