Catalonia will receive a second extension of 65 million euros from the MOVES III program, so that it will have allocated 195 million euros to this program to boost electric mobility. With this extension, users interested in purchasing an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle or installing a charging point will be able to continue applying for aid until the end of this year. MOVES III in Catalonia is managed by the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN).
The MOVES III program, endowed with Next Generation European Funds, opened in September 2021 with an initial allocation of 65 million euros, and received a first extension also of 65 million in April 2022. In at present, the budget for the first two installments had already been exhausted, as 16,061 requests for aid for the acquisition of vehicles and 8,490 requests for the installation of points have been received recharge
People wishing to apply for these grants will not notice any changes, as the channels already enabled for their request and processing will remain. All the information to carry out the procedure also remains valid. The extension has no effect on people who had already made their request.
The smooth operation of MOVES III in Catalonia reflects the commitment of citizens to the energy transition and to new mobility models, and is also the result of the proactive work of the Generalitat to promote electric mobility, which dates back to the year 2010 with the first electric vehicle implementation strategy, and which was intensified in 2016 with the launch of the Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Plan in Catalonia and the creation of a public network of charging points fast, the approval of regulatory simplification measures for the installation of domestic charging points or the preparation of a visual map of public access charging points, among others. In Catalonia, this 2023 11.2% of vehicle registrations are already electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles.
