The representatives of the Council of Associations of Technical Industrial Engineers of Catalonia, among which was our Dean, met on the 7th of April with the Councilor Josep M. Vallès.
The Minister of Justice, Josep M. Vallès, accompanied by the Director General of Law and Legal Entities, Xavier Muñoz, interviewed on April 7 with a representation of the Council of Associations of Industrial Technical Engineers of Catalonia CCETIC , formed by Joan Monyarch President of the Council and at the same time Dean of the CETILL, Joan Ribó Dean from CETIB and Santiago Crivillè Dean of the CETIT.
After exposing the appreciation and concerns of our professional group, both parties considered it necessary to continue the talks in order to establish a path of dialogue that coordinated the links of communication between the Department and the Council. One of the main objectives is to report a more agile and clear definition of our fields of action. It should be noted that the Director was receptive to our appreciation and showed his interest at all times.
During the meeting, the concerns of our group about our profession were exposed as, as you know, we maintain a relationship with the Department of Justice when we act as Judicial Experts, among other professional attributes. From the Council, we understand that there is some ignorance on the part of the courts in our fields of work and competences. With this premise of work, we emphasized the important and exhaustive range of actions in which we are competent, all of them derived from the five specialties: Electricity, Electronics, Chemistry, Mechanics and Textile.
In addition, our representatives indicated to the Board Member that in the lists of judicial experts periodically elaborated by the DG of Relations with the Administration of Justice, activities such as defined by other professions and in which we are not appear fully competent. As an example, among others, the prevention of fires, air conditioning, acoustics, lifting devices, etc., were listed as activities closely linked to our own activity.
In this sense, it was requested that the lists of collegiate registrars to register Judicial Experts be used like those of other collectives and that they are in equal conditions in all the courts. For this reason, our Council was made available to the Department of Justice in order to collaborate in the elaboration of a list of areas of intervention of the ETI's as Judicial Experts, detailing in each case the professional qualification required to rule on the subject matter of the ruling with the guarantees required.
The Council considers that this has been a very important first step that has opened up a path of dialogue that will undoubtedly benefit all of us, be it the Administration, our Schools and, of course, our own colleagues.
