Montse Ferrando leads Girl's Day, a day to encourage science for girls

The director of the School of Chemical Engineering (ETSEQ) of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV), Montse Ferrando, presented the latest edition of Girl's Day held yesterday on the Sescelades Campus on the occasion of Women's Day and Girl in Science.

About 90 students from different institutes in the province of Tarragona participated in organized workshops whose aim is to stimulate and awaken STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) vocations among ESO girls.

Girls make up 60% of undergraduate students at the URV, by contrast, this figure in engineering and architecture is down to 23% according to the 2019 `` Women and Men at URV '' report.

Ferrando also was the protagonist of this Sunday's interview with the Diari de Tarragona, in the Economics & Business Supplement, where he emphasized that the low participation of girls in the engineering field is not only a problem here, but throughout the world.
