The Council through a letter to the Spanish government sent today Monday, March 23, requesting that all activity in the sector be stopped, given the impossibility of guaranteeing the prevention and security measures against COVID 19. We also request a plan with initiatives aimed at recovering the sector to tackle the crisis that is causing the global pandemic.
The Association of Builders, Technical Architects and Building Engineers of Barcelona, the Board of Colleges of Builders, Technical Architects and Building Engineers of Catalonia, the College of Architects of Catalonia, the Col. College of Agricultural and Forestry Technical Engineers of Catalonia, the Official College of Forestry Engineers of Catalonia, the College of Graduated Engineers and Industrial Technical Engineers of Barcelona, the Council of Colleges of Engineers Graduated and Industrial Technical Engineers of Catalonia, the Official College of Computer Engineering of Catalonia, the College of Technical Public Works Engineers of Catalonia, the Catalan Association of Telecommunications Engineers and the Engineering Association Telecommunications Technician of Catalonia (GrausTIC), we have sent a letter to the Spanish government requesting that it take "the necessary measures to stop all related labor, professional and business activities. with non-essential construction works , whether public or private. "
In the state of health emergency in which the country is in COVID-19, and in the context of alarm status, professional colleges are forced to demand actions “in defense of the health and safety of our groups , as well as the rest of the people working in the construction and industry sectors in general. " We consider the crisis to be "out of control" and that "it is necessary to take another step and take new extraordinary and urgent measures because the current ones are insufficient".
The prevention and protection against COVID-19 in the works are not guaranteed
The crippling of the construction activity, therefore, responds to the need to "respect the rules of protection to prevent contagion and the spread of the disease", with recommendations such as maintaining the minimum safe distance between people and the obligation to circulate on public roads and spaces individually. However, in virtually all construction sites and in many factories and ancillary workshops, "it is virtually impossible to guarantee the prevention and protection measures established against COVID-19 . " are in place "are not an essential service" and, therefore, "traffic must be restricted so that workers and other staff can access it".
A plan to boost the recovery of the sector
Likewise, the signatories urge the government of Pedro Sánchez to promote "sufficient economic measures to overcome the losses that occur as a result of the paralysis of activity by force majeure" , with the ultimate goal of "maintaining the places of work and recover the activity of companies ”and thus be able to contribute to the recovery of the country’s economy.
