End of alarm state

The state of alarm is over and the experience of KNOWING THE TERRITORY comes to an end. It has purported to be a brushstroke of what we have so close to, and that we may not have realized its relevance. The places we have chosen are mostly related to history, to know where we come from and to arouse concern about where we are and where we want to go.

ENGINEERS TARRAGONA, brings together the technical and undergraduate engineering of Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre, and has wanted to disseminate the works related to the engineering of our roots, because without any doubt, engineering, although with other names, it is one of the oldest sciences in mankind.

The COVID-19 Pandemic is and has been a very hard blow, which has shaken social and economic structures around the world. But unfortunately there have always been pandemics throughout history: surely the disappearance of Neanderthal man was one of them; Typhoid Fever (430 BC) in Athens in the Peloponnesian War; the Antonine Plague (165-168) in Rome, of soldiers from Asia; the Black or Bubonic Plague (541), begins in Egypt; and later the pandemics of Cholera, Influenza, Typhoid, Smallpox, Measles, Tuberculosis, AIDS, etc. Knowing them will not prevent them, but the important thing is to know how they were transmitted, and how they were isolated. Its transmission was mostly due to the displacement of soldiers or merchants, and its isolation goes through confinement, until the treatments or vaccines arrived. The solution used to date has been given to us by history, confinement, and avoiding its transmission, until the treatment is found.

The story, then, is the open book that brings us positive or negative experiences, for anyone who wants to analyze and use them to move forward. Without history, there would be no engineers; the knowledge acquired from others is what the educational system has transmitted to us, and the experience of the engineer is acquired by working day by day.

We need to rethink how to continue to be a globalized world, without affections. The pandemic should help us understand that new technologies in the world of engineering make connectivity from one end of the planet to the other without risk available to everyone; but also to understand that each community, in the end, is a tribe; and that whatever is disposed of, manufactured, or consumed in the tribe itself reduces the risks of others, and strengthens the continuity of that. The silk fashion of China, can perfectly be changed by using wool from our flocks; because one thing is globalization and another the fierce economic will, to nullify the history and will of the tribes, in order to generate the globalized dependence of others.

I want to convey my gratitude to all the people for the good reception and participation in KNOWING THE TERRITORY, and to inform you that it is the will of the Board to start new experiences, aimed at Knowledge.

Since we are on the flights of Sant Joan and remember the summer solstice, I wish that the “purifying” fire of Sant Joan will drive away the COVID-19 and, above all, take care and stay alert to the recommendations of the Authorities.
