The mayor of Tarragona, Josep Fèlix Ballesteros; the Deputy Mayor for Economic Activation, Javier Villamayor; the prior of Poblet, Fr. Lluc Torcal; and the director of the Congress, Robert Moragues; presented the "I Mediterranean Congress of Energy Efficiency and Smart Green Cities", which will take place on November 7 and 8 at the Palacio de Congresos de Tarragona. Organized jointly by the Open Energy Institute and the City Council of Tarragona, it aims to be a business forum and networking in the key of energy efficiency and smart cities within a roadmap that aims at the Mediterranean Games of the 2017.
The Mayor affirmed that "this Congress, with a very high level of speakers, is the starting point for the commitment of our city and the whole City Council for reflection and for setting the dynamics of Smart Cities that has given us to take 2017. Not only is it included within the framework of the city of Tarragona and its territory but in the entire Mediterranean area. " For his part, Deputy Mayor of Economic Activation, Javier Villamayor, added that "this initiative is part of the desire to progressively transform Tarragona into a smart city, since the management of the 21st century must be a Management that includes values of sustainability and energy efficiency ".
The "I Mediterranean Congress of Energy Efficiency and Smart Green Cities" is born to respond to the needs of small and medium-sized cities in the Mediterranean area and to become a platform for information, debate and business opportunities. It is aimed at professionals and entrepreneurs in sectors that work or want to introduce themselves in issues related to energy efficiency and smart cities. Assistance is expected of between 300 and 400 people.
In the programming of the Congress highlights the presence of prominent speakers such as Jeremy Rifkin, professor of the executive education program of the University of Pennsylvania's Warthon School, thinker and author of the book "Third Industrial Revolution", which states how side power is transforming the energy, the economy and the world. Assistance has also been confirmed by Minister José Manuel Soria, the mayor of Barcelona and senior managers of AGBAR, Gas Natural Fenosa, Endesa, Telefonica, Port de Tarragona, Repsol, Siemens, Indra, among others.
At the end of the second day of Congress the reading of the "Tarragona Declaration" will take place, a document prepared to project the will of the city and the City Council of Tarragona to align itself with the movement of the Smart Cities of the Mediterranean. "This is a very important roadmap for the city that we have to work on", concluded the mayor.
