The final version of these first regulations has been validated by specialists and was presented in December 2006 at the headquarters of the College of Industrial Engineers of Catalonia with the presence of representatives of the administration, university students and professionals.
On December 21st, 2006, the first UNE terminology standards in Catalan were introduced, as a result of the collaboration agreement between AENOR, the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification, and the TERMCAT, Terminology center.
The first norms published are the UNE-EN ISO 9000: 2005 Quality management systems? Basic principles and vocabulary, the UNE-EN ISO 9001: 2000 Quality management systems? Requirements, the UNE-EN ISO 18513: 2004 Tourist services? Hotels and other types of tourist accommodation? Terminology and UNE-ISO 14050: 2005 Environmental management? Vocabulary The final version of these regulations has been validated by reference specialists in these sectors and also by the Supervisory Board of TERMCAT, an organization that is responsible for fixing the terminological neologisms in Catalan.
The Catalan version of these standards can be purchased on the AENOR website ( www.aenor.es ) and through the Association of Industrial Engineers of Catalonia ( www.eic.es ). You can also consult the corresponding Catalan terminology through Cercaterm ( www.termcat.cat ).
For this 2007, several Catalan institutions have requested the Catalan version of new standards that are considered key in their respective sectors, such as in the field of management of information technology services, document management or of the textile industry.
The Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR), is a private non-profit organization, which is legally responsible for the development of technical standards in Spain and is the leader in certification at the state level. It has a catalog of more than 24,000 standards. Its market share in certification of quality management systems is 33.1% and in environmental management 41%.
TERMCAT is the official terminology center for the Catalan language. It is an organization that is part of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Institute of Catalan Studies and the Consortium for Language Normalization, and is in charge of coordinating and promoting the development of terminology in Catalan.
The presentation ceremony of the UNE standards in Catalan took place at the headquarters of the College of Industrial Engineers of Catalonia, chaired by Joan Vallvé, president of the Association of Industrial Engineers of Catalonia. He also had the presence of Gonzalo Sotorrío, Director of Normalization of AENOR; Miquel Pueyo, Secretary General of Linguistic Policy of the Generalitat de Catalunya; Joan Cortadellas, technical director of the UNESCO Chair of the University Department of the UPC; Salvador Alegret, vice president of the Institute of Catalan Studies, and Rosa Colomer, director of TERMCAT.
